Wood Chip

General Information

• Usage of wood chip: Wood chip is mainly used as a main raw materials for pulp and also as an environmental fuel for power plant (biomass), etc.
• Main supply source of woodchip: Australia, USA, Vietnam, China, South Africa, Chile, etc.

Supply Situation

Annually we supply approximately 300,000BDMT of hard woodchip with the following supply system.

1) Production by our factories

1. HANVIHA Forest & Products Co., Ltd.
   • Species: Acacia, Casuarina, Eucalyptus
   • Production & Supply Capacity: 120,000 BDMT/year
   • Loading Port: Vung Ang port, Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam
2. Donggang Changhua Forest Products Co., Ltd.
   • Species: Mixed hardwood chip (mainly oak)
   • Production & Supply Capacity: 60,000 BDMT/year
   • Loading Port: Donggang port, Liaoning Province, China
3. Hunchun Yanjin Wooden Products Co., Ltd.
   • Species: Mixed hardwood chip (mainly oak)
   • Production & Supply Capacity: 70,000 BDMT/year
   • Loading Port: Rajin port, D.P.R.K.

2) Other Supply Sources

In addition to woodchip of our own factories, we also supply Casuarina woodchip of Hainan, China and Birch woodchip of Alaska, U.S.A.

3) Main Market

We are supplying around 30% of total demand of Korean market. Besides, we are supplying to Taiwan, China and Japan.

Unit of Measurement

• Wood chip is usually measured in an unit of BDMT or BDU, not in Metric tone.
• 1 Bone Dry Metric Tonne(BDMT)
• = 1,000 kg (2,204.62 lbs) oven dry woodchip without moisture content
• = approximately 3,674 lbs (as green wood chips with 40% moisture content), depending on
• moisture content of wood chip
• 1 Bone Dry Unit(BDU)
• = 2,400 lbs oven dry woodchips without moisture content
• = approximately 4,000 lbs (as green wood chips with 40% moisture content), depending on
• moisture content of wood chip
• 1 BDU = 1.0886 BDMT

Quality & Size Specification

 1) Quality

• Bark and rot: 1% max
• Woodchip shall be clean cut and free from oil and foreign substances such as sand, stones,plastics, coal, char, vinyl etc.

2) Size

• Length : 4.8 28.6mm
• Over 28.6mm : Less than 5%
• Under 4.8mm : Less than 3%
