Hanhwa Resources participates in a bio-diesel project in Vietnam. Our main feed-stock is Jatropha Curcas. As first stage of the project, we will start a large-scale Jatropha plantation in northern and central part of Vietnam in year 2007.
Jatropha Curcas or Barbados nut or Physic nut is a poisonous shrub belonging to the Euphorbiaceae or spurge family. It is resistant to a high degree of aridity and as such does not compete with food crops. When the seeds are crushed, the resulting jatropha oil can be processed to produce a high-quality biodiesel fuel that can be used in a standard diesel engine. From a Jatropha seed, 31 to 37 % of oil can be extracted.
